Quality Assured: The Egg Quality Assurance™ (EQA®) program

​Egg farmers of Prince Edward Island participate in an External Quality Assessment (EQA) program to ensure all eggs meet safety, quality, and uniformity standards.

The program involves independent testing of egg samples and farm practices by an external body, providing objective feedback on factors such as shell integrity, interior quality, and hygiene.

Regular EQA participation helps PEI producers monitor processes from collection to packaging, identify areas for improvement, and maintain consumer confidence in Island eggs.

By benchmarking against industry standards, PEI egg farmers implement best practices in cleanliness, storage, temperature control, and traceability. The external assessments also support regulatory compliance and can inform training and equipment investments across farms on Prince Edward Island.
